A lighthouse on a moonlit night.

Description

“Moonlight and Mist” by Eliot Candee Clark (American, 1883–1980) is an atmospheric oil on canvas capturing a tranquil moonlit landscape beneath a dramatic, mist-filled sky. A luminous moon emerges through sweeping layers of blue, gray, and softly illuminated clouds, while windswept trees and a darkened foreground create a striking sense of depth and solitude.

Clark’s sensitive handling of light and atmosphere is beautifully represented in this work. The restrained palette, expressive sky, and silhouetted landscape give the painting a quiet, almost poetic quality characteristic of the artist’s approach to the American landscape.

Signed Eliot Clark lower left, the painting measures 18″ x 20″ and is presented in its original period frame, measuring 21″ x 23″ overall. The warm, carved frame complements the cool tonalities of the moonlit scene and adds to the painting’s historic character.
